Hello, I'm David Hopkins, a graphic designer with nearly 50 years of experience working for design groups, advertising agencies and, ultimately, running (and then selling) my own design and marketing agency.
Since then, I've been creating unusual artwork, utilising a range of processes and software that I'm familiar and comfortable with. We don't all have to be computer nerds dealing with everything bit by bit. Graphic designers just need to have the desire and ability to be innovative, clear and direct.
My agency team and I created loads of design solutions, some award winning, over the years. I'm proud of what we achieved and here are just a few examples.
The agency was called The Info Group, mainly because it was our job to make information, or info, immediately attractive, interesting and easy to understand. We didn't have the highest profile, but we were always busy, working with clients in the arts, education, healthcare, government and a whole range of independent businesses across South Wales and beyond.
We were one of the first agencies in the region to commit to the emerging digital technology, which at the time was a major change from drawing boards to screens.
Our website had photos of our black Info circle logo in unusual situations, suggesting our ability to solve problems anywhere.
The creative industry was always fun to be part of, although that was not always obvious when given crazy deadlines, changing briefs and a variety of technical issues, but I don't think that we ever let anyone down.
After 25 years and over 10,000 graphic design projects successfully completed, the business was sold as a going concern.
Since then, I've been working on what interests me, which has always been strong, direct and immediate graphics, but with an element of humour. Hopefully, this comes through in the wide range of artworks and photographs I'm continuing to produce. Some of the unusual things I've seen along the way have contributed to that vibe.
